Positive Motivators for Spiritual Leadership [Final]

Positive Motivators for Spiritual Leadership [Final]

There are two of many examples of positive spiritual motivators:
Nehemiah and Abel.

Nehemiah: The Purposeful Leader

The story of Nehemiah shows someone who saw a need and was motivated to do something about it. Nehemiah received a report about his people who were afflicted, and that the Walls of Jerusalem which were broken down [1:3], which made him sad [1:1-4]. From the intelligence he received he prepared himself to do something about it. This is indeed the attitude of a true spiritually motivated leader.

He Prepared Himself with Prayer and Fasting

He did all that he could in terms of intercession [prayer] and fasting in his approach before God to obtain His attention Nehemiah 1. He later sought permission and provision from [his employer]. Nehemiah calculated all that he would need to do the work so that when he approached the employer, he had a plan concerning his needs. [Chapter 1:5-11; Acts 1:12-26 – 23-26]. Notice, that before he approached the employer, he first sought God’s favour, which is vital concerning anything we purpose to do for Him. See Ezra 8.

He had a Vision and Objective

After hearing the news concerning the condition of Jerusalem, Nehemiah made a decision to go and help to restore the Wall. He sought God’s help and guidance, and later approached his employer so that he could take time off to find out the matter. His vision was restoring his people and re-building the walls of Jerusalem, these were his most urgent objectives.

Planning and Organizing

Upon his arrival, Nehemiah first took an inventory [2:12-16], of what was happening in Jerusalem. He secretly went by night to see for himself the state of affairs and how he would plan to bring about restoration and re-building of the Wall. Having seen the condition, he strategically selected and arranged the people for work even by families. If you notice, he was concerned about the protection of his people. With the Wall broken down, they were open to intruders and enemies who would attack them. He was indeed a visionary and unselfish as a leader and concerned citizen.

Selection of Workers

Nehemiah involved the people by showing them his intention concerning restoration of the Wall and helping them out of their distresses. He engaged the people into discussion who were able to show him their needs and what they were going through [2:17-18]. The tithes [only for under the law] were not coming in, the priests had to go out to work; and people’s lands were mortgaged which was very disagreeable to Nehemiah. Although there were enemies who did not want the work started, yet he remained irresolute and firm with his plan. He encouraged the people stating: The God heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build [2:20a]. To the enemies he said, But ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem [2:20b].

Nehemiah had an Unselfish Attitude

Despite the many circumstances and oppositions against Nehemiah, he was willing to continue with the vision [Chapters 1-3]. Nehemiah was unselfish by taking leave from his job to help in the restoration of the Wall. He did not concern himself with the secure job he had. Instead, he considered the work of the Lord and the protection of the people [6:10-14]. Those circumstances include the following situations:

He faced Opposition and Ridicule

Some of the people opposed and ridiculed his mission and the vision. The mockers tried in every way to stop him, but Nehemiah had a made-up mind and was determined to continue with the work [4:1-6]. What should be admired during this time of persecution was his attitude towards prayer and seeking God’s presence. Nehemiah went to God about everything which is what all spiritual leaders should do. Several times he asked God to keep him and his work in remembrance.

He was Uncompromising

When our minds are made up to obey the Lord to do what He gives us, we will not compromise no matter how great the temptation [6:1-4]. What I have noticed in the 21st Century Church Age is the humanism and worldliness among leaders and their followers. Their members follow them and not Christ. If they were lovers of Christ, then they would seek for green pastures where the word is not perverted or corrupted to satisfy the world’s standards. Leaders who compromise are the ones who depend on financial assistance from wherever and whomever, to promote themselves [not the Gospel]. They water down the Gospel to continue receiving financial gifts [filthy lucre, Titus 1:11], while the people are going to hell with them. Those persons have a form of godliness, but with no power [II Timothy 3]. They know the truth of the Word, but they are muzzled by greed, fame, and materialism. Instead of having the Holy Spirit in their midst, they have an ATM. We need more leaders like Nehemiah.

Although there are those who have not bowed to the world’s standards, they are few and far between. They have no acclaim in this world, and do not associate with the Who-is-Who in society. They are unknown by the world, and unnamed; but known by Almighty God, His Son Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. They do not compromise. Instead, they stand for the Truth! They believe in “What the Word says” about family, male and female, securing the life of the unborn, and maintaining the sacredness of God’s structure and plan for marriage which He has blessed [Genesis 2]. Outside of this framework; God does not acknowledge, and will only spew at them!

He ignored Slander

Nehemiah did not allow slander, lies, and deceit to deter him from his plan. He continued with prayer, and trusted the Lord to help and guide him along the way. He did not give up [6:5-9]. Leaders, have you become discouraged whereby you have given up or at the point of doing so? I would suggest that you read Jeremiah, Job, and of course Nehemiah again and spend some time in fasting and praying to seek God’s favour. Do not given in to ridicule, slander and persecution from the opposition who serve the devil. Keep in mind that it is what God says about you counts. Pay attention to your relationship with Christ. Stay humble, submissive, and obedient to the leading and direction of the Holy Spirit [Psalm 32:8; Philippians 4:8; I Peter 3:15]; and be willing and ready to forgive with love and compassion for your attackers.

He Dealt with the Spirit of Discouragement

Discouragement is one of Satan’s most deadly and destructive weapons against Christians and those who purpose to obey God. Jeremiah, Elijah, Job, and others are examples of those who overcame this terrible satanic intrusion into the life of the believer. With Nehemiah, there were many situations which occurred to discourage him, but he continued relentless not caring what his enemies said about him or their lies [4:10-23]. Nehemiah encouraged the people to continue with the work regardless of opposition and ridicule. These are demonic spirits used to bring about discouragement. Even then, he told the people: Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses [4:14b]. We are not in this battle only for ourselves, but for our families, the Word, and the world. The faithful spiritual leader who has a true connection with the Lord, will seek to protect His people and support them, no matter what the circumstances may be.

Restoration

Through Nehemiah’s work, diligence, and tenacity, people had their lands returned to them. Worship was restored, and the law was read and interpreted to the people [Chapters 7-13]. These are qualities of a sincere motivated spiritual leader who was called by God.

Clearly, the book of Nehemiah is one of spiritual motivation which shows an unselfish leader who had a vision, plan, organizational acumen, spiritual acuteness, readiness, determination, unselfishness, courage, and the desire for restoration.

Undoubtedly, He was a godly man who sought God’s guidance for all his plans. He believed in prayer and getting God’s attention. He took the prevailing situation seriously and sought ways in which he could do something to bring about change. It is good to pray which should precede every action; but we must be active in order to bring about both spiritual and practical change and restoration.

There is no question concerning the dead state of the church in this 21st Century with the intrusion and acceptance of all forms of apostasy. Therefore, the people of God should return to holiness and living a sanctified life. This requires men and women of God who are willing to daily take up the Cross and follow Christ [Luke 9:23]. They must ignore worldliness and do the will of God. Jesus’ return is not a fairy tale. He is coming back. Leaders must prepare themselves and their people for this occasion. No one knows when; but Jesus is coming back again. Amen!

Abel: the godly and reverent Leader

We should consider Abel as a person whose behaviour should inspire others to reverence God in all that we do. We should be motivated to do all we can to please Him. Abel was someone with a conscientious mind which every spiritual leader must possess. He was concerned about the type and quality of sacrifice to present before God which would be acceptable by Him. He must have spent time selecting and deciding how it was to be prepared and brought to Him. Similarly, church leaders must carefully decide what kinds of programs they will introduce to the people of God dressed up with the “Christian” title attached, but totally worldly and humanistic.

According to the word: Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering [Genesis 4:4]. In today’s church age, the attitude is anything goes when it comes to God and worship. There is no longer wearing the Sunday Best for church. Most [so-called] Christian women dress as if they are in a fashion contest to suit and please the eyes of the judges. God is NOT pleased! Your worldly dressing sickens Him! Go and read Revelation 3:16, then ask yourself if your ways [sacrifices] are pleasing to God or the world.

Abel paid attention to what he brought and how it was brought. I believed he checked out the animal to see that it was not sick or lame [See Malachi 1-2]. He felt that God deserved the best and did just that. While Cain on the other hand did things haphazardly, without care or concern how it turned out. There was no reverence concerning how he prepared and presented his sacrifice. When we look at so-called Christian women today and their mode of dressing; it is disgusting, nauseating, and utterly ungodly. This is their presentation. It is difficult to tell the difference between the world and those who claim to serve God. The disgraceful manner in which people worship God is abominable and irreverent. God is watching and sees our hearts when we are doing things whether it is with sincerity, enthusiasm, desire, and with an unselfish attitude.

Malachi 2:8 “But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.” Unspiritual leaders who corrupt the Gospel for worldliness will answer to God for the souls being led astray, and those who have been or may be lost under their evil leadership.

Abel gave us an insight concerning what God expects from us. The book of Malachi reports the types of ungodly sacrifices that were presented to God which He detested. One can only imagine how God turns away from those persons who are irreverent in their worship and the way they present themselves to Him.

John 4:24 reminds us that we must worship God in Spirit and in truth. We must be sincere and purposeful in our worship with reverence which begins with the way we dress. There are those who will say that it does not matter how we come before God. This may be so when the sinner comes; but after conversion and repentance that person must be taught how to present himself or herself before God in the presence of His people. Church leaders have become lax, careless, and godless. They seek rather to be with the in-crowd than with the few who truly follow Christ. Many are corrupt and God-less whose interests are for fortune and fame.

Leaders should teach their people about worship and making sacrifices to God. What modern day church leaders are mostly concerned about are tithing and offering which many use for their own benefit. They have mis-interpreted and mis-represented what tithing was about and what giving is about. Seemingly, the deceivers have left the world for the confines of the church dressed in Christian garb [II John 1:7].

God Expects Results

The employer in the story of the man with the one talent, expected a return from his investment stating, Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and (then) at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. [Matthew 25:27]. God also expects us to use our gifts as spiritual leaders for the edification of the Body of Christ [Ephesians 4:12]. [I Corinthians 12:7, But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal]. To profit withal, means that everyone should benefit from the gift.

The Questions Today

  • Do you have a gift? What is it?
  • What are you doing with your gift?
  • Is your gift dead, dried, up, hidden away, or have you become careless?
  • What kind of leader are you?
  • Are you being enticed by the world?
  • What is your purpose as a spiritual leader?
  • What are your plans for leading God’s people?
  • Do you live, preach, and teach the unadultered and immutable Word of God to His people?
  • Are you concerned about your leadership style? Is it godly and pleasing to God?

Each individual must answer the question for himself or herself. Let us not be like the man with the one talent. We must not be lazy. We must produce by bearing fruits which will remain. Jesus said, Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it might bring forth much fruit [John 15:2]. Are you bearing fruit for the glory of Glory?

What kind of Spiritual Leader are you?

Disobedience and God’s Judgement

Disobedience and God’s Judgement

Genesis 2:16-17
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof thou shalt surely die.

Texts: Jonah 3:6-10; Psalm103:1-5
My question is “What is God saying to leaders of this world, to the churches, and to individuals?” People have separated themselves from God’s laws and His will for mankind. God gave the Commandments, but evildoers have turned away to their own willful and evil ways. They have chosen to sell their souls to the devil and his demons and have become his slaves serving him and doing his will. God sees it all and will certainly judge mankind for their sins. It does not matter who, or how great a nation may consider themselves; God is still the Creator of this Earth, and He will judge as He sees fit. We have strayed away from the Commandments pertaining to social, moral, family and godly living. This is not only national, but worldwide. Seemingly, many are dancing to the same tune, listening to the same ungodly messages from ungodly leaders who have no fear of God. Their behaviour responds to the word from Job 21:15-16Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?”

Regardless of how powerful or rich a nation, family, region or territory maybe God is still in charge and will judge those who do wrong and violate His Commandments. One of the attributes of God is that He is forgiving; and if sinners repent, He is faithful and just to forgive (II Peter 3:9). However, judgement will surely visit the ungodly and those who ignore His warnings. It may seem as though man has all power and authority to do what they want, but this is only a mirage. There is no truth in this concept. God’s patience is long, but it will wear thin, and mankind will be judged for their sins. We have seen how immorality, godlessness, hatred, and all manner of evils have infested the nations. Normal family life is gradually decaying and becoming a tradition of the past; the lives of children are being re-structured in every way possible; and the people of God seem to be spiritually comatosed. God is seeing it all and judgement is surely coming. If you have heard His voice, harden not your heart. Instead, repent and bring those whom you lead to acknowledge God’s laws as the king of Nineveh did in the days of Jonah. If you are ready, God is!

Be sure that judgement is coming!

Comfort in the Time of Distress

Comfort in the Time of Distress

Text: 2 Peter 3; John 14

This Scripture is reminding the people of God of the coming of the Lord, and to the world that sinners repent and turn their lives over to Him. Although it seems a long time since we heard that Jesus is coming back and yet we are still waiting, He is coming back. Do not lose hope despite the difficulties and the hardships many are experiencing at this time. Do not give up, trust in the Lord.

A Study on Grace – 3: How to Obtain Grace

Lesson 3: How to Obtain Grace?

Text: Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
James 4:6:But he gives more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.”
Proverbs 3:34: “Surely he scorns the scorners: but he gives grace unto the lowly.”

Family Life

Family Life

We can consider family to be the oldest institution upon earth. “So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28. Very early in creation God instructed the couple Adam and Eve to produce children and increase the population.

At the very beginning of creation, it is clear to see that God thought about everything concerning the welfare of mankind and how He wanted us to live. Family life is critical for all generations. It takes a strong family setting to produce children who are controlled, orderly, godly, and emotionally stable to the face the changing situations of the world. This begins while children are still young and vulnerable to the world and its changing scenes: some for good and others for bad. How will the child be able to choose what is best for him or her? If parents do not take the time to teach and train their children in the right way, then we can expect all kinds of adverse outcomes. The results from a dysfunctional family even with the presence of both parents may be enormous, and in some cases irreparable.
A godly family setting is essential especially in the early stages of a child’s life. Although death, poverty, or other situations may occur, none of those eventualities should prevent parents from taking the time to teach and train their children in the right way. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6. While many people may consider the Bible to be out dated and non-essential to their lives, it is still the most read book in the world. Evidently, there must be some truth in teaching children from this great book written from the inspiration of God. “All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” [II Timothy 3:16-17].
Parents complain that training did not come with a manual; but this is no excuse since the Bible holds the key to a stable and healthy family life. God has set the pattern and structure for family since the world began and this has not changed. Man may not agree with God’s standards, but this is all He will encourage and acknowledge. The fact that God has set out His standards for the family since the beginning of creation means that there is nothing more that He will do, but that those who annul His laws will answer to Him.
A godly family life should always be supported in every area of society; the church, the educational arena, and everywhere people meet and interact with each other. Despite this requirement and desire, we must admit that there are contrary spirits operated by the Devil to usurp and contradict the word of God. The result is chaos and immorality which touches every aspect of family life and into the broader community. The church does not escape this godless depraved carnage and therefore, should take heed and continue to abide by the infallible word of God which cannot change [Psalm 119:89].
Family life is critical and will serve for good or evil. If parents do not take heed, the next generation is in dire trouble. It is time to get back to the family altar of prayer, reading of God’s Word in the home and teaching children how to live, how to behave, and how to have respect for themselves and others. The future of the family is indeed critical, and requires re-adjustment from what is being portrayed as family life today. We must return to the stable formation given to us by God and adhere to His principles for a strong family life which results in a strong society and nation, wherever you live.

Proverbs 14:34
Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Timely, proven, and applicable words for such a time as this!

Emotional Trauma in Childhood -2

Emotional Trauma in Childhood -2

Emotional Trauma in Childhood; the second of 3 Seminars with Dr. Rubie

Impact of Parental Emotional Abuse on Adulthood

The incidence of childhood emotional trauma is real as is outlined in the text, “Impact of Parental Emotional Abuse in Adulthood.” There are adults who are still being affected by parental emotional bruises and some scars which are left behind. Those pains travel all the way to adulthood. One problem is that there are perpetrators who refuse to admit or even to talk about what a child went through from those abuses. As a Christian counsellor for many decades, I have counselled and helped many women [mainly] who have suffered and who were still suffering from parental emotional abuse. The story of Shirley in the text opens a small window concerning this situation. Other stories had to be shielded in their contents to protect the contributors. To them, I say a hearty “thank you” again.

Dr. Rubie discusses the condition of human suffering in terms of
childhood emotional abuse.

Study of Grace -2

A Study on Grace -2

What is Grace?

Sunday May 29, 2022
Text: Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: (it is) the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Hebrews 10:29, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under-foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”

The short answer to “What is grace” is that it is God’s unmerited favour. To leave with this answer would not be sufficient for this powerful and essential quality to the Christian life. The reason is that grace is of great significance to the true believer who wants to follow Christ. If you notice Noah found grace or received grace [special favour] from God when he purposed in his heart to obey His word rather than wallow in sinfulness….

Overview of Spiritual Leadership [2]

Overview of Spiritual Leadership
[2]

Introduction

Spiritual leadership is a sacred trust God places in the hands of a believer to lead His people. This position must not be treated as any other types of leadership activity. Therefore, the spiritual leader must not seek to justify man, but to please God since He is the one who called, prepared, anointed, ordained, and appointed him into service. Nevertheless, he must keep in mind that faith in God; humility; obedience; and submissiveness to Him are essential characteristics and qualities for his success. That person must have integrity with a consciousness to be obedient to God’s principles for Christianity and leading His people. Therefore, leading God’s people is one of the most awesome responsibilities an individual will acquire.

Effective spiritual leadership brings out the very essence of teaching the gospel in a practical manner. Sadly, so many leaders were shipwrecked along the way, causing untold damages and resulting in heaps of destructive wreckage behind them. Therefore, the spiritual leader must not allow pride or worldly ideologies to replace the doctrine of Christ. He must maintain a strict code of principles to guide the people so that they too adhere to the Gospel of Christ. The people will only obey what the leader teaches. Therefore, if he deviates, then he will be leading God’s people astray. To avoid the pitfalls, there are some guidelines the leader should follow:

Personal Conduct – II Timothy 2:24-26, I Timothy 3:1-16

  • Personal conduct is important as a representative of Jesus Christ, whom you serve. You are always on show.
  • Your behaviour will either attract others; or hinder them from coming to the Lord.
  • Be faithful and observe punctuality.
  • Show respect for others, and do not insult God’s people, especially before others or from the pulpit.
  • Be truthful. If you are dishonest, you have no business leading others.

The minister who was called by God must seek to please Him in every way he is able to do. He will know that God has a purpose which He will reveal concerning His assignment for being in His service. The minister will not be arrogant and should know the mission and purpose for the church of Jesus Christ. It will be the mission of the church that will give him the impetus to move forward, or he will be disillusioned, and discouraged; and abandon the work very early in this appointment. The minister must be cognizant of God’s mission to restore the relationship with His people which we once had with them before the Fall. For this reason, He sent Jesus Christ into the world to reconcile us back to Himself (II Corinthians 5:17-21).

The Work of the Holy Spirit

It is of vital importance to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction; teaching and wisdom by acknowledging your weakness and inabilities without Him – John 16:13. Seek to please God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit’s presence and keeping power you will receive grace, which will help you to practice kindness, patience, and gentleness (the fruit of the Spirit) Galatians 5:22-23.The Holy Spirit will help you to walk in faith to please God – Hebrews 11:6, and to be obedient so that you can obtain Gods’ blessings – Deuteronomy 28. The leader should always seek to discourage the spirits of heresy, false doctrines, apostasy, discords, and others – Titus 1:10-16. This will help to avert destructive conflicts if the Holy Spirit is allowed to direct him in the management of problematic situations and decision making – Acts 6:1-6

When conflicts occur, the Holy Spirit will give wisdom and understanding to manage every situation according to the will of God. It is important to secure effective interpersonal relationship among members/staff – Ephesians 4:1-6. These are examples for the members, the community, and the world – Colossians 4:5-6.

Duties of the Leader

  1. The leader is a representation of Christ. He should be Christ-like.
  2. Spreading the gospel to the world. He is a visionary.
  3. The leader interprets and presents the word of God through various agents: the Holy Spirit, intellectual and spiritual abilities, commentaries, apologetics, dictionaries, revelations.
  4. Effective problem solving through effective communication. Being impartial and fair.
  5. Encouraging members. Good listening skills. Loves people.
  6. Being effective to as many as possible regardless of their contextual circumstances: origin, educational, financial, backgrounds, with fairness and kindness to all, and without partiality.
  7. Introducing and maintaining the essence and truth of the gospel:
    • Understanding the dynamics of conflicts and how to de-escalate them. He should endeavour to encourage. humility and peace among the brethren – Philippians 2:1-9.
    • Train and delegate others to help with the work – Titus 1:5.
    • Worship – Psalm 34:1, Colossians 3:1-11 – there must be a high standard of worship in the church at all times. However, this does not include worldly music and ungodly events dressed in Christian garb or title.
    • Avoid worldliness, spiritual adultery, human wisdom, manipulating others – witchcraft, twisting the truth of God’s Word to obtain monies from people. This will affect the message and doctrine and personal reputation.
    • Submit, to the Holy Spirit – Galatians 5:16, 24, James 4:7.

Always Maintain the Principles of the Gospel:

In order to influence others and to reach the world, the leader should practice a life of prayer. This should include fasting for guidance and direction when led by the Holy Spirit. Prayer must be persistent, fervent, effectual, and constant; and always with faith (James 5:16-18; Hebrews 11:6). Another important duty is the serving of Holy Communion. While there are ministers who do not believe that this ordinance is necessary, Jesus made it clear that as often as we do this; we show His death until He comes (I Corinthians 11:26; Matthew 26:26-29). Since the leader is called by God, he should endeavour to win souls as was commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 29:19-20). Winning of souls includes water baptism. Even with this ritual of the Christian church there are ministers who do not believe that it is necessary. The Christian doctrine has not changed from the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20; John 3:5.

Issues that will Affect the Church

In society today, traditional values have changed to please the desires and values of the masses pertaining to family structure and principles which affect the sanctity of life, and marriage. However, the spiritual leader must not be influenced by humanistic worldly standards which are contrary to the word of God. The Bible has made it clear that the word of God cannot and will never change. God’s word has been etched indelibly on the pages of history and cannot be altered, watered down or annulled (Psalm 119:89).
