A Study on Grace -2

What is Grace?

Sunday May 29, 2022
Text: Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: (it is) the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Hebrews 10:29, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under-foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”

The short answer to “What is grace” is that it is God’s unmerited favour. To leave with this answer would not be sufficient for this powerful and essential quality to the Christian life. The reason is that grace is of great significance to the true believer who wants to follow Christ. If you notice Noah found grace or received grace [special favour] from God when he purposed in his heart to obey His word rather than wallow in sinfulness….

Overview of Spiritual Leadership [2]

Overview of Spiritual Leadership
[2]

Introduction

Spiritual leadership is a sacred trust God places in the hands of a believer to lead His people. This position must not be treated as any other types of leadership activity. Therefore, the spiritual leader must not seek to justify man, but to please God since He is the one who called, prepared, anointed, ordained, and appointed him into service. Nevertheless, he must keep in mind that faith in God; humility; obedience; and submissiveness to Him are essential characteristics and qualities for his success. That person must have integrity with a consciousness to be obedient to God’s principles for Christianity and leading His people. Therefore, leading God’s people is one of the most awesome responsibilities an individual will acquire.

Effective spiritual leadership brings out the very essence of teaching the gospel in a practical manner. Sadly, so many leaders were shipwrecked along the way, causing untold damages and resulting in heaps of destructive wreckage behind them. Therefore, the spiritual leader must not allow pride or worldly ideologies to replace the doctrine of Christ. He must maintain a strict code of principles to guide the people so that they too adhere to the Gospel of Christ. The people will only obey what the leader teaches. Therefore, if he deviates, then he will be leading God’s people astray. To avoid the pitfalls, there are some guidelines the leader should follow:

Personal Conduct – II Timothy 2:24-26, I Timothy 3:1-16

  • Personal conduct is important as a representative of Jesus Christ, whom you serve. You are always on show.
  • Your behaviour will either attract others; or hinder them from coming to the Lord.
  • Be faithful and observe punctuality.
  • Show respect for others, and do not insult God’s people, especially before others or from the pulpit.
  • Be truthful. If you are dishonest, you have no business leading others.

The minister who was called by God must seek to please Him in every way he is able to do. He will know that God has a purpose which He will reveal concerning His assignment for being in His service. The minister will not be arrogant and should know the mission and purpose for the church of Jesus Christ. It will be the mission of the church that will give him the impetus to move forward, or he will be disillusioned, and discouraged; and abandon the work very early in this appointment. The minister must be cognizant of God’s mission to restore the relationship with His people which we once had with them before the Fall. For this reason, He sent Jesus Christ into the world to reconcile us back to Himself (II Corinthians 5:17-21).

The Work of the Holy Spirit

It is of vital importance to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction; teaching and wisdom by acknowledging your weakness and inabilities without Him – John 16:13. Seek to please God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit’s presence and keeping power you will receive grace, which will help you to practice kindness, patience, and gentleness (the fruit of the Spirit) Galatians 5:22-23.The Holy Spirit will help you to walk in faith to please God – Hebrews 11:6, and to be obedient so that you can obtain Gods’ blessings – Deuteronomy 28. The leader should always seek to discourage the spirits of heresy, false doctrines, apostasy, discords, and others – Titus 1:10-16. This will help to avert destructive conflicts if the Holy Spirit is allowed to direct him in the management of problematic situations and decision making – Acts 6:1-6

When conflicts occur, the Holy Spirit will give wisdom and understanding to manage every situation according to the will of God. It is important to secure effective interpersonal relationship among members/staff – Ephesians 4:1-6. These are examples for the members, the community, and the world – Colossians 4:5-6.

Duties of the Leader

  1. The leader is a representation of Christ. He should be Christ-like.
  2. Spreading the gospel to the world. He is a visionary.
  3. The leader interprets and presents the word of God through various agents: the Holy Spirit, intellectual and spiritual abilities, commentaries, apologetics, dictionaries, revelations.
  4. Effective problem solving through effective communication. Being impartial and fair.
  5. Encouraging members. Good listening skills. Loves people.
  6. Being effective to as many as possible regardless of their contextual circumstances: origin, educational, financial, backgrounds, with fairness and kindness to all, and without partiality.
  7. Introducing and maintaining the essence and truth of the gospel:
    • Understanding the dynamics of conflicts and how to de-escalate them. He should endeavour to encourage. humility and peace among the brethren – Philippians 2:1-9.
    • Train and delegate others to help with the work – Titus 1:5.
    • Worship – Psalm 34:1, Colossians 3:1-11 – there must be a high standard of worship in the church at all times. However, this does not include worldly music and ungodly events dressed in Christian garb or title.
    • Avoid worldliness, spiritual adultery, human wisdom, manipulating others – witchcraft, twisting the truth of God’s Word to obtain monies from people. This will affect the message and doctrine and personal reputation.
    • Submit, to the Holy Spirit – Galatians 5:16, 24, James 4:7.

Always Maintain the Principles of the Gospel:

In order to influence others and to reach the world, the leader should practice a life of prayer. This should include fasting for guidance and direction when led by the Holy Spirit. Prayer must be persistent, fervent, effectual, and constant; and always with faith (James 5:16-18; Hebrews 11:6). Another important duty is the serving of Holy Communion. While there are ministers who do not believe that this ordinance is necessary, Jesus made it clear that as often as we do this; we show His death until He comes (I Corinthians 11:26; Matthew 26:26-29). Since the leader is called by God, he should endeavour to win souls as was commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 29:19-20). Winning of souls includes water baptism. Even with this ritual of the Christian church there are ministers who do not believe that it is necessary. The Christian doctrine has not changed from the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20; John 3:5.

Issues that will Affect the Church

In society today, traditional values have changed to please the desires and values of the masses pertaining to family structure and principles which affect the sanctity of life, and marriage. However, the spiritual leader must not be influenced by humanistic worldly standards which are contrary to the word of God. The Bible has made it clear that the word of God cannot and will never change. God’s word has been etched indelibly on the pages of history and cannot be altered, watered down or annulled (Psalm 119:89).

Claim what God has Promised you

Sunday May 22, 2022

Text Ecclesiastes 3:1, 3, 8

We must be willing to go after the promises of God which He has made to us. No one can take them from us, but we must claim them. There are times when this requires a fight and the only way we will prevail against the enemy is to stand in faith and be strong. Never let the enemy deceive you. Claim God’s promises to you.

Overview of Spiritual Leadership
[1]

Introduction

Spiritual leadership is a sacred trust God places in the hands of a believer to lead His people.
This position must not be treated as any other types of leadership activity. Therefore, the spiritual leader must not seek to justify man, but to please God since He is the one who called, prepared, anointed, ordained, and appointed him into service. Nevertheless, he must keep in mind that faith in God; humility; obedience; and submissiveness to Him are essential characteristics and qualities for his success. That person must have integrity with a consciousness to be obedient to God’s principles for Christianity and leading His people.
Leading God’s people is one of the most awesome responsibilities an individual will acquire.

Obviously, the person who has been called by God must be motivated with enthusiasm, drive, inspiration and purpose. The main focus is interest, because we are motivated by what interests us. Therefore, if there is no influence, the leader will not do anything, despite how important the situation might be since motivation refers to interest. Although the individual may be enthusiastic about an idea, it depends on whether he or she will pursue the call God has placed upon that life. Evidently, motivation is more than being propelled or driven. There must be the desire to pursue a dream, idea, or opportunity.
One of the problems some leaders experience, even though they have been called, anointed, and appointed is that they lack motivation. We can identify two of those persons who are the man with the one talent (Matthew 15:14-30); and Cain (Genesis 4:1-14ff).

The Man with the One Talent

The Parable of the Ten Talents is more than a story, but one of motivation. It revealed the attitude of the three servants. Jesus spoke in parables to the world; but He always revealed the true meanings to His disciples [Matthew 13:11, Mark 4:11-12, Luke 8:10]. In this story we can see that two servants expressed motivation and showed their use of opportunity and the regard they had both for the employer and their position with him. They chose to work earnestly to please the one who selected them for their position. These two servants could have grumbled and set the talents aside since it was not theirs so why should they care. Nevertheless, they were willing to invest the employer’s money, rather than ignore his interest.

Of the three servants, one stood out from the other two. This servant was not willing to put forth the effort needed to invest the funds so that upon his employer’s return there would be a reasonable profit made for him.
This is the behaviour some Christians display towards the gifts God has given them. They do not use it for the benefit of the ministry or even for the glory of God.
Some make merchandise of the gift so that they can get rich and fill their pockets with money.
This third servant was lazy, fretful, murmuring and complaining. In his mind he thought the employer was harsh and over-bearing to ask him to work hard to make a profit for him. Seemingly, the employer was asking too much from him. There are leaders who are in a similar position because they do not take the work of the Lord seriously.

The Story of Cain

In Genesis 4:1-7, we read of the story of Cain. It was his behaviour which brought forth the first conflict on earth. Cain was the first child for Adam and Eve. There came a time when Cain and his younger brother Abel offered up sacrifices to God. The Bible tells us that God accepted Abel’s sacrifice but rejected Cain’s. Does God show partiality? The reason why God rejected Cain was because of his attitude concerning the sacrifice he brought. Cain was selfish and did not give from his heart. He thought that God would accept anything he brought, and this is where many leaders and believers are making the mistake thinking that they can live any life and still be acceptable to God.

Paying tithes and giving gifts do not get us into the presence of the Lord, or into heaven. Our hearts must be right when we give to God [Ephesians 6:5-8]. Someone might say that Cain’s sacrifice was not accepted because it was not of blood; but this is not so. God accepts other types of sacrifices [Numbers 18:12]. It was the condition of Cain’s heart which was wrong, making his motive for sacrifice wrong. Therefore, God rejected it. Moreover, God desires and deserves the very best we have to give. He will not accept anything which is inferior [Malachi 1:6-8]. Give God the best that you have.

Although neither the man with the one talent nor Cain was an elected leader,
the behaviour of each man showed
the attitudes leaders can adapt when things do not please them.
More to follow.

The Gift of Motherhood: The Value of a Child-2

The Gift of Motherhood: The Value of a Child – Part 2

Genesis 1:27-28:
So God created man in his (ownimage, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth
.
One of the most important attributes of God was making man into His own image. Not only did He specifically emphasized this aspect, but He expressly told them [male and female] to “Be fruitful, and multiply.” He had a specific reason for identifying the structure recognizing that this was the only way this plan could be achieved. Do you trust the wisdom of your God?

Psalm 127:1-3:
Lo, children (arean heritage of the LORD: (andthe fruit of the womb (is hisreward.
As arrows (arein the hand of a mighty man; so (arechildren of the youth.
Happy (isthe man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”
Children are special gifts from God to parents who acknowledge His commandments. Great emphasis was placed on parents to care for their children.

The Gift of Motherhood: The Value of a Child

The Gift of Motherhood: The Value of a Child

Sunday May 8, 2022

Today we celebrate the gift of motherhood and the value of a child. Not everyone has the experience of motherhood; but every [woman] can be the mother of someone who needs her.
Not every child will be what a mother desired; but every child is valuable because he or she is a gift from God.

God Still Answers Prayer

The stories are real. Only the names of the contributors have changed. Do you need prayer? Try bringing your situation before the Lord and see what He will do? Prayer is a divine opportunity to meet with God. He asks us to pray. Jesus taught us how to pray. Let prayer be an integral item on your daily agenda.

There are times when we pray, and it seems as if God is not listening. When you find yourself in this situation, it is better to commit yourself to Him. Think over His past blessings and prayers that were answered. You may even look into your heart to see if faith is active. If we have no faith, God will not hear us, but even then, He will have mercy and fill the need you are seeking Him to fulfil. Have faith and do not look at your circumstances or your insufficiency. God loves you and He will answer your prayer. Just believe.

With God, all things are Possible

But Jesus beheld (them), and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26

There are times when we all have to face difficult situations. We may not have the answers or solutions to our problems, but God does not fail. It is better to trust in Him and place every problem in His hands. God will never fail you no matter what happens in your life. God is always near; and His aim is to help you. Whatever you are facing today, trust in the Lord and know that what seems impossible to you is possible with Him, if only you would trust in Him.

With God, all things are possible.
